Welcome to Tūranga, Christchurch’s state-of-the-art central library located at 60 Cathedral Square in the heart of the city. Open from 9 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday (with the ground floor “He Hononga | Connection” opening at 8 am) and 10 am to 5 pm on weekends, Tūranga offers a modern and vibrant space for everyone.
Designed with families in mind, the library features dedicated zones for children and young people, including the Wāhi Whānau / Family Place with the Imagination Station for crafts, Lego and Duplo play, and creative spaces for art and hands-on fun. With workshops, storytimes, digital studios, virtual reality experiences, 3D printing, robotics labs, and cozy reading areas, Tūranga combines the warmth of a traditional library with the excitement of new technology and discovery. It’s a place where imagination and innovation meet — perfect for a relaxed visit or a fun day out with the family.
